Safe Sleep Certification
Tennessee’s Only Gold Safe Sleep Champion
A Golden Commitment to Helping Every Baby Sleep Safer
Erlanger is the only health system in Tennessee to become a Gold-level “Certified Safe Sleep Champion” – the highest level of national safe sleep certification. Awarded by the Cribs for Kids® National Infant Safe Sleep Initiative, this certification recognizes our commitment to reducing infant sleep-related deaths by:
- Promoting best safe sleep practices
- Educating the public on infant sleep safety
- Establishing an infant-safe sleep policies at Erlanger
- Modeling infant-safe sleep for our patients
Every year in the United States, more than 3,500 infant deaths occur due to accidental suffocation, asphyxia, or undetermined causes during sleep. In 2012, this total included five infant deaths in Hamilton County due to co-sleeping. By achieving gold certification, Erlanger is demonstrating that it is committed to being a community leader and is pro-actively eliminating as many sleep-related deaths as possible.
