About / Overview
Dr. Haynes has been practicing Family Medicine for over 25 years. He currently cares for patients and educates residents and students while serving as the Family Medicine Residency Program Director at the University of TN College of Medicine-Chattanooga/Erlanger Family Medicine residency program.
Dr. Haynes has a particular interest in outpatient medicine for all ages, women’s health, musculoskeletal care, underserved care, global medicine, and medical education.
Prior to joining Erlanger in 2011, Dr. Haynes served for 24 years in the U.S. Air Force. His final duty station was Eglin Air Force Base where he served as the Family Medicine Residency Program Director from 2007 to 2011 prior to retirement. Dr. Haynes also served as the Family Medicine Consultant to the U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, Chief of the Medical Staff, Chief of Family Medicine, deployed Commander, Critical Care Air-Transport Physician, and a deployed refugee camp physician throughout his military career. He received the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians’ Family Physician of the Year Award in 2003 and was awarded the Bronze Program Director Award by the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors in 2018.
Dr. Haynes has authored numerous articles and book chapters in leading medical journals/textbooks and has given presentations at the Armed Forces’ Force Health Symposium, the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors Annual Meeting, the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians Annual Meeting and the University of TN College of Medicine – Chattanooga’s Annual Family Medicine Update. He serves as a deputy editor for the Evidence-based Practice journal.
Dr. Haynes lives in Ooltewah with his wife of over 30 years and enjoys spending time with his four children and mother-in-law. In his free time, he enjoys growing in his faith, triathlon training, and reading.
