The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine – Chattanooga, in partnership with Erlanger, is proud to announce the nomination of Haley Everett, MD, for the 2024 Alper Humanitarian Award. Dr. Everett is the nominee representing the department of surgery.
Dr. Everett has been incredibly active in research. She has one first author publication in the American Surgeon and has contributed to two other articles currently in print. Currently, she is writing a manuscript on using the enneagram as a tool for resident wellness. She has presented five times at the Southeastern Surgical Congress, as well as given numerous grand rounds and basic science presentations and is always very organized.
Dr. Everett is a standout academically. She consistently has the highest ABSITE score in her class. In 2022 she scored in the 93rd percentile. She is on our resident ABSITE committee and helps plan basic science conferences. She has been president of the House Staff Association for the past three years. She is responsible for planning events for all residency programs and serves as the liaison for the institutional graduate medical education committee. She also serves as the Chattanooga - Hamilton County Medical Society resident member on the Board of Directors.

The university, in conjunction with the Erlanger Foundation, Erlanger, and an endowment from the family of the late Dr. Harold Alper, has established the yearly ceremony and grand rounds keynote address. The Alper Humanitarian Award is presented to a graduating resident or fellow at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine – Chattanooga who has consistently demonstrated during residency or fellowship the humanistic qualities for which the late Dr. Alper was known: integrity, compassion, and community service.
