Education and Collaboration
Education is an area of pride and focus in our Department of Pharmacy with multiple pharmacy college affiliations, opportunities to serve in a preceptor role, and close collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Pharmacy College Affiliations
Erlanger Health System is affiliated with several local colleges of pharmacy, including:
- The University of Tennessee College of Medicine
- The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy
- Mercer University College of Pharmacy
- South College School of Pharmacy
- East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy.
Teaching and Learning Certificate Program
Residents are given the option to participate in a Teaching and Learning Certificate Program while developing advanced teaching and mentoring skills through an affiliated college of pharmacy.
Preceptor and Collaborative Experience
Residents will also gain experience serving in a preceptor role for pharmacy students on rotation at Erlanger, under the supervision of an experienced preceptor. Pharmacy residents will learn to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals including physician and nursing staff. The Erlanger Department of Pharmacy maintains strong relationships with other healthcare professionals within our system, fostered by daily interactions in a multidisciplinary rounding model. Additional opportunities for the PGY1 resident to provide formal and informal education to physician and nursing staff, working with established UT College of Medicine pharmacist faculty members exist throughout the program.
