Bereavement Program

The Children's Hospital Bereavement Program provides compassionate support and guidance to bereaved parents and family members following the death of a child - as well as resources to help children cope when a loved one or parent is facing serious illness or death. We offer individual and family support from Child Life Specialists, as well as education, community referrals and support groups.

What to Say & How to Say It

It is important to talk honestly with children about the potential death of a family member or friend. To help you do this - we’ve created a grief and bereavment guide for parents. It offers guidelines for helping children cope with death by age.

COVID-19 Hospitalization Education

We've also created several new pieces that speak to helping children when a loved one, parent, or grandparent is hospitalized or diagnosed with COVID-19.

  • Why Can't I Visit? - Explaining why Erlanger has a new rule to limit the amount of people that can come into the hospital
  • Talking about COVID-19 - How to include children in difficult conversations to reduce stress and increase coping
  • When Symptoms Worsen - Tips for communicating with children when a hospitalized loved one's symptoms do not improve
